In it’s purest essence, black metal is to me the social (democratic) state gone wrong. It’s the bottom dwellers of a collective-society-gone-wrong making up their own minds and giving a big huge middle finger to all the people who favor average contention above individual well-being, it’s a perverted mirror perfectly showing what society at large are thinking of such malcontents and anti-social beings (yours truly included, of course)
And Thaw is an almost perfect amalgam of this. Their name might inspire thoughts about spring, but there’s nothing warm about what they do – the music is as cold as imaginable, perfectly mimicking a society that’s removed itself from any form of empathy, but at the same time it’s as if there’s this deep longing in the music, a longing for a time when people actually mean something.
Opening track of THAW’s 4th studio album “Grains” due out on December 8th via Agonia Records.

As such, the band-name is exquisitely chosen. Simply warmth is not providing any adequate sustenance for human beings – things may thaw and no longer be frozen – but warmth do not spread below the surface without some form of empathy, some form of understanding.
With compositions ranging from ambient drone of unsurpassed darkened and brooding atmosphere (on St. Phenome Alley) through truly chaotic black metal, to almost postmetal-like atmospheric heaviness that seems to tie all the loose ends together.
Craving desolation and chaos? You know where to look on Friday, 20 April, where you will enter the 013 Venue and give yourself over to Thaw.
