Dead Neanderthals – Rat Licker / Utech Records, God Unknown Records, Sentencia Records, Burning World Records, EveryDayHate, Moving Furniture Records, Consouling Sounds, Saw-What Distro (2021)
After a number of (amazing) releases of minimalistic excesses (with track-lengths more likely than not above the 30 minute mark), Dead Neanderthals have returned with an album of 12 hardhitting tracks, and a total running-length of 9 minutes and 17 seconds). We scratched our heads, then asked our reviewer (which would also be me) to tell us exactly what this album is all about. This is what came back:
EVERY FUCKING TIME YOU THINK YOU’VE “GOT” DEAD NEANDERTHALS…
THEY THROW YOU A FUCKING CURVEBALL
A RETURN TO START AND A WAY AHEAD IN ONE UGLY PACKAGE
GRIND-JAZZ? JAZZ-CORE? EXPERIMENTAL ANGER? WHO CARES?
NO MORE TONGUES-IN-CHEEK
BUT LOTS OF TIGHTLY CLENCHED FISTS WITH STIFF MIDDLEFINGERS
AND EVEN WHEN IT LETS OFF IT NEVER LETS GO OF YOUR THROAT
ENTER RAT LICKER AT YOUR OWN PERIL
IGNORE RAT LICKER AT YOUR OWN PERIL
THIS IS THE SOUND OF BATTLE AGAINST POWER AND ABUSE
THE NEANDERTHALS ARE DEAD – LONG LIVE DEAD NEANDERTHALS!!
Hmm, yes, I see…
Well, one thing to add, a bit premature perhaps, but I’m personally very curious to see, what the Dead Neanderthals’ traditional new year’s eve release will sound like this year, seeing as that normally can be seen as a summary of the past year’s output… and this year so far we’ve had quite the diversity with this and the equally excellent (but very different IXXO performance at Roadburn Redux)…
Rat Licker is out now on Utech Records, God Unknown Records, Sentencia Records, Burning World Records, EveryDayHate, Moving Furniture Records, Consouling Sounds, Saw-What Distro, and through Dead Neanderthals themselves.
